Baked Fonduta

OMG! Throw away all your other appetizer recipes... This gooey gooey melty & yummy cheese dip will be the new crowd favorite! 

Now, you may be asking… what is Fonduta? Its the Italian equivalent of Swiss cheese fondue!

Fontina is a semi hard cheese, made from unpasteurized cows milk. Fontina cheese has been around for over 500 years! The name comes from the Italian word “fondere,” which means melt. And that is what it does best! That and make your taste buds happy.

By taking this Fontina cheese, and mixing it with fresh herbs, and some EVOO, then baking it for 10 minutes in the oven, It becomes a sweet, sharp, creamy, amazing dip that just begs for seconds, thirds, and even licking the skillet clean! You can even add garlic to change things up.


  • 8 ounces Fontina Cheese

  • 1 Tbs Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 1 Tbs Fresh Thype

  • 1/2 Tbs Chopped Chives


  1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees, or Broil on High.

  2. Cube Fontina cheese, and put in a cast iron skillet (about 5-6 inch diameter)

  3. Drizzle with olive oil

  4. Sprinkle fresh herbs on top

  5. Place skillet on top rack, about 5-6 inches from element

  6. Bake for 5 minutes, check, and possible bake a minute or two more. Watch carefully so as not to burn.

  7. Serve with fresh baguettes, grilled veggies, or pita chips!
